The
HIDDEN GARDEN

Intro:
A senior-year project in a speculative design course.

Brief: In a world where public spaces are constantly under surveillance and facial recognition technology rapidly identifies individuals and accesses extensive personal information, how can we protect ourselves?
Medium: open.

I chose to counter facial recognition with manual methods by using an external accessory to alter facial polygons and prevent identification.
After scanning friends' faces, I used Grasshopper (a generative design tool pre-AI design) to create custom, ever-changing petal-shaped polygons tailored to each face.

I then 3D-printed the petals and fitted them to disrupt recognition.

Presentation:
I curated the concept into a spring-inspired fashion catalog to present it as an existing product offering a ready-made solution. This also elevates it to a desirable product and normalizes applying polygons to the face.
